5 Bridal Trends for 2012

We recently caught up with Donna Holland, owner of Party Dress Express,New England’s #1 Retailer for Proms, Weddings and Special Occasions.  She’s filled us in on what Brides across America will be wearing in 2012.

TREND #1 – LOVELY LACE
“We saw some incredible gowns that used lace as a primary detail at the Bridal Market and that was no surprise.  We’re calling that “The Middleton Effect,” after Kate Middleton, who looked so stunning in her wedding gown to Prince William.”  So it’s no surprise that Holland made sure her 18,000 square foot store would carry many variations of gowns with lace detail.  Holland, “Lace is always associated with a classic bridal look, so even though it’s on trend, a Bride wearing lace will always look timeless.”
Rina Di Montella Bridal: The three layers of lace tiered skirt are breathtaking and so feminine.  A matching French lace jacket can be paired with this dress as well. Allure Couture: The lace keeps it traditional but the cut of this gorgeous gown keeps the style up to the minute. Enzoani: taffeta mermaid gown, detachable Queen Anne neckline, bust line w/ lace applique w/ Swarovski crystals, chapel length. David Tutera for Mon Cheri : It's the hint of metallic shimmer in the lace that keep this wedding gown so modern.
TREND # 2 – EMBELLISHED SKIRTS
Many of the most striking wedding gowns which were shown at the New York and Chicago Bridal Market featured skirts which were not only voluminous, but which also had very heavy embellishments.  “Flowers and concentric circles made out of organza made for impressive accents on the gowns we saw,” Holland told us.  “We’ve seen this in many years past on the couture runway but it’s just this year when the trend came down to a price point that I know my customer will really appreciate.”  Holland said Brides will fall in love with embellished skirts, whether they are designed with crystal beading, delicate flower petals made of organza or feathers (yes, feathers! A big trend for 2012!)
Allure Couture: fairy tale of a wedding gown.  The full ball gown skirt is embellished with soft flowers and crystal beading. Maggie Sottero: A dream of a dress, organza flower motifs seem to float just above the dress. Maggie Sottero: No one will be able to take their eyes off you!  Our favorite detail:  handmade flowers are nestled in the bustles of the skirt. Maggie Sottero: Strapless empire A-line silhouette, accented with beaded flower appliqués sewn onto netting over Sheer organza and satin lining.
TREND # 3 – PRETTY IN PINK!
Although white and ivory reign as the #1 choice of color when it comes to wedding gowns, in 2012, many Brides are “thinking pink.”  Donna Holland filled us in, “Pink is such a feminine, romantic color and femininity and romance is synonymous with a Bride’s wedding gown.  It didn’t hurt that Reese Witherspoon looked so enchanting in her blush wedding gown, recently.  Again, my customers see a celebrity’s style in a magazine and I’m able to bring it to them in many different styles, that suit an array of body types.”  A soft pink is a flattering color on Brides of all skin tones, so we’re not surprised that pink is a trend for 2012.
The hint of blush in Mora Lee’s
“Rosa #3112 makes it so romantic.
Allure Bridals does “pink” so right with its Blossom dress, Style #8906. The pink is so light in Allure Bridals Style #8914 that you might be doing a double take!  But its soft glow will make a Bride look that much more radiant. Gorgeous organza and the light rose tone up the romance factor of this beautiful wedding gown!
TREND #4 – BELTS: BLACK, BEADS & BLING!

“This is a trend we really love,” Holland told us, “Because when Brides come in to Party Dress Express, they often tell us that they want an element to their dress that will express their individual style.  And a belt, whether one accented with a black flower, some beading or crystals, will definitely do the trick!”  A decorative belt is not only a unique fashion statement but depending on the dress it’s paired with, can give off a vintage vibe or look more “fashion forward.”

Casablanca Bridal: Pure romance! A dress Audrey Hepburn would wear, yet the olive silk bow and belt make it so fashion forward. Sophia Tolli Bridal: Fitted lace gown w/ delicate, scalloped v-shaped neckline and back. The waistline is defined by a taffeta sash with floral accent & crystals.
Enzoani: The gorgeous beaded belt “ups the romance” on this already dazzling dress by Allure Bridals which also incorporates the embellished skirt trend. Casablanca Bridal: The sophisticated elegance of this dress is paired with Swarovski crystals to create a gorgeous belt detail.
TREND # 5 – JACKETS, CAPES AND BOLEROS, OH MY!
“Again, we see “The Middleton Effect,” as Kate Middleton looked so incredible in her reception dress accented with a little jacket over her gown,” Donna Holland tells us.  “This trend can be for the Bride throughout all seasons and it can be a fantastic way for a Bride to dress up her gown at the ceremony and make it a little more elegant and traditional.  Once she’s at her ceremony, she can take it off as she dances the night away at her reception.”  A cape is perfect for winter, a jacket can be for different seasons depending on the length of the sleeve and though boleros are often used for warmer months, depending what it’s made of, might be a perfect piece for a winter wedding, too.

any dress.
David Tutera for Mon Cheri: the matching scalloped lace and point d'esprit capelet will transform this gown from demure and romantic, to modern and sexy. More Lee Bridal: lace jacket is the perfect addition to a dress that might be worn in the cooler months or a way to transform your dress from ceremony to reception in an instant! Cassablanca Bridal: We love the detail on this bolero jacket, the lace and beading make it so stunning.

“Our goal is to make sure that our customer’s look and feel fantastic in their dress,” Donna Holland told us.  “Trends are amazing to keep in the back of your mind, but ultimately, a Bride knows when she tries on her wedding dress what feels right to her.  What we love about 2012 trends, is that a Bride can really wear one or combine several of them and still look timeless and effortless all at once.”
