Bridesmaids’ Dress Trends for 2010

Dresses for bridesmaids have come a long way!  Gone are the days when the bride picked the color and dress style for the bridal party and everyone wore the same thing.  Maybe the maid of honor had a little variation in her gown or accessories, but that was it.  You could usually never wear a bridesmaid dress again either because of its long length or pouffed skirt.  This is not so today.  Today’s  dresses come in styles that can be mixed and matched for the perfect look on everyone, lengths that you can manageably walk in, and colors that pop.

Style – Mix and match styles with separate top and bottom pieces are a popular alternative to the dress.  Separates allow for each bridesmaid to get the best fitting and most comfortable dress style for their body type.  You can choose from top styles like strapless, short sleeve, or halter, with bottoms in your choice of length and style like ball gown or column, for a look that most flatters your figure.  You can even choose different sizes for the top and bottom for the most comfortable fit as well.  Maids of honor are also getting in on wearing their own unique combinations.

Color – Without doubt, the most noticeable trend in bridesmaids’ dresses this season is the explosion of bold and vibrant color.  While turquoise is the “it” color for spring 2010, going green in shades like appletini, pistachio and Kelly or zesty shades of guava, watermelon, or orange crush, are also putting smiles on bridal party faces.  If those colors aren’t for you, some of the bridal manufacturers offer many of their dresses and separates in over 40 or 50 different colors and some of their websites let you design your own color inspiration boards or dress your wedding in mix and match colors and styles that you can email to your bridal party and friends. These features help you find the color or color combination that’s perfect for your wedding.

Lengths – Hemlines seem to rise along with the rising spring temperatures as cocktail length seems to be the popular length in bridesmaids’ dresses now.  Whether pleated with side pockets or fun, flirty and full, cocktail length dresses are versatile and can easily be worn again after the wedding.
