Runway Looks for Rehearsal Dinners

Brides spend lots of time selecting just the right dress, accessories, make-up artist, and hair stylist for their wedding day but may not spend much time shopping for a rehearsal dinner ensemble.  The rehearsal dinner is a night to shine as well.  When shopping for an outfit, the time of year, type of dinner party and personal style of the bride will determine what to wear.  Here are a few ideas and inspirational photos from the spring and fall 2011 runways of New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week to help you get started.

Spring/Summer Parties

Warm weather outdoor parties like BBQs or clambakes require lighter, more breathable fabrics to keep you cool and comfortable.  An embroidered cotton peasant top paired with linen shorts, look through wedges, straw hat and a canvas tote makes a casual, yet stylish outfit perfect for outdoors.

A restaurant dinner requires dressing up a bit more.  Nautical stripes are always a welcome look for spring and summer so pair a flowy striped dress with leggings for a funky, downtown look or go uptown in a long, print maxi dress with neutral platform shoes and bag.

For spring or summer semi-formal cocktail parties at a country club, break out one of this season’s hottest trends, a citrus bright dress.  An orange, yellow or lime green dress really makes a bold statement but if it’s too much color for you, opt for a bright bag or shoes instead.

Fall/Winter Parties

Fall or winter rehearsal dinners will most likely be held at a restaurant. Pair two of fall’s biggest trends, plaid trousers or a plaid skirt and a belted sweater, for a fashionable look perfect for a night on the town.

For a semi-formal cocktail party this autumn, replace the little black dress with the new “it” color, red.  A red cocktail dress is rich and stands out in the sea of fall neutrals.  Add a faux fur wrap or jacket and you’ll look like you just stepped off the runway.

The rehearsal dinner is a night for the bride to relax with her closest family and friends.  When selecting something to wear for the night, keep individual style in mind, look to the latest trends for inspiration and avoid wearing anything too tight, too short or too low cut and you’re sure to shine.
