 Seating at the Reception
You will need to finalize your seating arrangements approximately two weeks before your wedding day. Not sure who to put where? Well, here are a few tips for you:
  • Be sure to seat people with similar interests together. You don't want to put Uncle Paul, who loves animals, with Uncle Bob who loves to hunt!
  • Have people of similar ages at the same table.
  • Have your officiant sit with your parents.
  • Seat relatives that haven't seen each other (due to distance, not differences) in a long time. They would probably love to catch up on old times.
  • If you're parents are divorced, seat them at separate tables. One parent can sit with the groom's parents and the other parent can sit with the officiant or other family members.
  • Try seating an even number of guests at each table. This way there won't be an "odd man out".
  • Seat the guests that love to dance near the dance floor. They will get the party started!
  • Have a children's table. Include coloring books, crayons and games to keep them entertained.

Decorating Your Reception Site with Flowerss
Flowers are always a beautiful way to liven up a room. There are many ways you can decorate with flowers:

Centerpieces
Centerpieces are placed on the guest tables and on the head table. The head table's arrangement is usually a bit larger than the guest tables. Some ideas for centerpieces are:
  • Vase of tea roses
  • Hurricane lamp surrounded by flowers
  • Glass dish with a floating candle, surrounded by flowers
  • Flower arrangement with wedding colors
  • A bouquet of balloons
  • Topiaries (see topiaries for instructions)
  • Use candles that have dried flowers inside the wax for the centerpieces.
Prior to the wedding, you should decide what will happen to the centerpieces after the reception.  You may decide to give them to specific guests or to randomly select a guest from each table.

Other Considerations
Not only can flowers be used to decorate the head table, entranceway to the reception or as centerpieces but they can also be used in many other ways such as:
  • The wedding cake may be displayed with a ring of flowers surrounding it or you can use real flower petals to decorate your wedding cake.
  • Decorate the gift table, guest book table and champagne table with a nice arrangement of flowers.
  • Place a flower arrangement in the ladies room.
  • You can use edible flowers in some beverages (such as lemonade, punch or iced tea).
  • Have pressed flowers placed under a sheer tablecloth.
  • Give a small potted plant to each guest as a favor.
  • The bride may choose to wear flowers in her hair.

 Frequently Asked Question
Q: We are having a buffet-style dinner with no assigned seating at the reception. I made favors for each guest but with no assigned seating, how do I make sure that they get the favor?
A: Set up a table near the reception room exit and put the favors on the table with a note that says "Thank you for sharing our special day. Please take one." This way they won't misplace it during the reception or forget it after the reception.
