Rhode Island Wedding Guide

Long, Sexy Eyelashes

Article and Images contributed by Colleen Elizabeth Makeup

As a makeup artist, one of the most frequent questions I get from brides is "should I wear false lashes on my wedding day?" Brides want their eyes to stand out on the big day, but they’re concerned about lashes looking “too fake,” “too overdone,” or “too unlike me.” Fortunately, the size, length and styles of false lashes vary considerably, allowing you to achieve anything from a simple, natural look like Kate Middleton to a bold, dramatic look like Kim Kardashian. In addition to deciding how bold you want to go, you have a few options on application methods. Here’s how I guide my brides so they can decide what’s best for them.

wedding beauty: eyelashes

Your first option is lash extensions. The extensions are applied very carefully so that they blend together with your natural lash line. While the process can take about two hours, you'll be lying down the whole time with no discomfort. The price of lash extensions can range from $150-300, but they'll last about eight weeks with the possibility of one fill in between. The best part is that, during that time, your eyes will pop 24/7 without the need for mascara! If you go this route, I suggest getting your lash extensions a week before the wedding so that you have time to get used to them.

Your second option is cluster lashes, or strip lashes. Application takes ten minutes, and they’ll last a few days. The cost can range from $15-30 making it a great option for members of the wedding party who may not want to splurge on expensive, professional lash extensions. The low cost doesn't mean low quality - you can come close to achieving the same look as lash extensions, they just won't last as long. Strip lashes can easily be done on the day of the wedding.

I hope this helps you decide what will be best for you on your wedding day. The most important thing is to be comfortable and enjoy the day - that will make you shine brightest for the camera!
