Bridal Jewelry Styles

Wedding industry reports suggest that engaged couples want to stand out from the crowd when planning their weddings, according to The Jewelers of America that goes for their jewelry choices, too.  More and more brides are wearing jewelry that reflects their personal style but they also may want to wear what’s in style. What’s in style though, like snake motif jewelry for example, might not make the best wedding day look.

When choosing bridal jewelry, there are several factors to consider.  The style of your wedding gown or hair style, the neckline and formality of your event are all factors that will determine the type of jewelry to wear on your wedding day. With this in mind, choose personalized jewelry pieces that you are comfortable wearing but that complement, not distract from, the beauty of your overall look.

Using jewelry industry research, celebrity influencers, and jewelry trends from New York fashion week shows, here are a few of the top jewelry trends for 2011 we think would create stand out style and be appropriate to wear on your wedding day.

Pearls – Pearls remain a very popular jewelry choice for weddings.  A single strand of pearls is sometimes passed down from one generation to the next continuing a family wedding tradition but if you prefer something a little showier, pearls can also be worn in combination with diamonds for a stunning bracelet or earrings, as a single pearl accent pendant necklace or for a more modern look, as a multi-strand necklace. If you’re a bride who’s allergic to metal, pearls might be a great choice for you. [Checkout Faux or Real wedding pearls]

Colorful gemstones – Perhaps Kate Middleton’s blue sapphire engagement ring started this trend of wearing colorful gemstones but gemstones are showing up in everything from stand out pendant necklaces, diamond and gemstone bracelets to pear shaped dangling earrings.  Emeralds were super popular with celebrities at the Academy Awards with several leading ladies choosing this gemstone but golden citrine or smoky quartz gemstones are also popular and are being used in the latest jewelry designs.  If you’re wearing a white or ivory wedding gown, this type of jewelry really stands out and adds a pop of color.

Antique, vintage styles – A big trend in the wedding industry right now is retro styling with tea length dresses and pin curled hairstyles so it’s no wonder that antique or vintage jewelry is hot.  Brides can mix heirloom or vintage family pieces of jewelry with new pieces for a one-of-a-kind look or just purchase new reproduction jewelry that is designed to look old. Traits of antique or vintage jewelry to look for include a floral motif, art glass, delicate filigree work, or a cameo or locket.
