Slimmed down single-breasted tuxedo styles are popular for 2013. The slender silhouettes include a trimmer waist, tapered sleeves and a shorter jacket length, which creates a polished, less boxy look. Lapels are thinner too creating an overall sleek new level of style when combined with the slimmer jacket designs. Black is still the most popular tuxedo color with light or pale grey trending close behind for spring. Light grey’s cool color tone coordinates beautifully with vibrant lemon zest, a PANTONE color of the year for spring 2013, and a popular color choice for bridesmaids’ dresses and accessories too.
Since guys are wearing slimmer tuxedo jackets for spring, it’s no surprise that we’re seeing slimmer cut trousers as well. Flat-front trousers, or pants without pleats, are popular for 2013. Flat-front trousers cut out the extra bulk that pleats provide and look less baggy. While the length of jackets is getting shorter, so is the length of trousers. Trousers with no break, or where the bottom of the pant falls straight down and rests just to the top of the shoe without any folds in the fabric, are one of the hottest new looks to come off the runway and become popular with the most style-conscious men.
Formal shirts are also now available in slim fit models to coincide with the more tailored tuxedo trend. Lay down collar shirts are more popular than wing collars and the bow tie is back in a big way! Whether shown on the runway, advertised in men’s fashion magazines or worn by Hollywood’s A-list actors, the bow tie continues its huge comeback over the four-in-hand-tie. An old favorite for a new generation, it provides the perfect blend of style and sophistication for today’s groom.
