Planning a wedding takes a lot of time and energy and once the ceremony and reception are over and the nerves have settled most couples look forward to going on their honeymoon. For most, the honeymoon is a time for them to relax and really have a great time together but with so many great destinations to honeymoon, how does a couple decide where to go?

There are many things to consider when selecting a honeymoon location like budget, your interests, and time of year. It helps to talk about what the two of you would like to see and do while you are away. Adventurous people might like to snorkel or ski. Some couples might prefer an exotic or tropical location where they can relax on the beach. Nature lovers or outdoorsy types might like a camping and hiking honeymoon. Others might look for a place with a jumping nightlife, a big city with lots to do, or a romantic or historical destination.

With all these things to consider, it’s really difficult to put together a list of the top honeymoon destinations as each honeymoon is unique to the couple. Different sources, like magazines, wedding websites, and even travel agents, might cite different lists of the top honeymoon places as well. So, taking multiple sources into consideration, we’ve compiled a list of what we’ve found to be the top or most popular honeymoon destinations based on a location being featured on multiple lists.

In no particular order, the top five locations on multiple lists are:

Hawaii – Hawaii is the one location that shows up on every single list of top honeymoon destinations and why not? With multiple islands like The Big Island or Maui, each having its own charm or special features, there’s an island for everyone.

Italy – Italy is another list topper for its history and romance. A romantic gondola ride through the canals of Venice, a sunset stroll in the rolling hills of Tuscany, or sharing a slice of the world’s best pizza together in Rome, Italy is a country that oozes old world charm.

Tahiti – The Islands of Tahiti and French Polynesia are also popular spots. Sun-kissed beaches, rich culture, and magnificent flora make islands like Bora Bora as close to paradise as you can get.

Mexico – Easy to get to from most locations in the US, Mexico has many spots perfect for honeymooners. From Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, or Cabo, Mexico has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for adventure, romance, or nightlife, you can find it here.

Caribbean Islands – With so many spectacular islands that come up on multiple honeymoon hot spot lists, I have to include them all here - Jamaica, St. Lucia, US Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Antigua, and Aruba, each with its own unique culture and beauty, the Caribbean Islands as a whole are a honeymoon favorite.

So when planning your honeymoon, it’s good to get advice or suggestions from family, friends, wedding planners, and travel agents, but in the end, you need to find a destination that fits your budget and lifestyle.
